Return from Hiatus (And Upgrade to Riyoga’s Ramblings 3.0)

As you’ve probably noticed, I’ve been back for a while. I probably should have posted this a few days ago. Oh well, I’m still relaxing since summer is here.

So last time when I “upgraded” the blog to 2.0, it wasn’t actually much. I just added a blogroll, created a Twitter, and removed one category I had been doing. It was more of a 1.1 upgrade than anything. This one, however, is a true upgrade, because I’m doing some pretty big changes to how I’m doing things.

While I don’t mind that I lost the tourney, Dark_Sage has a point in that my recent posts lacked any real personality to them. It was just addressing good and bad points in shows, then justifying those claims. Some of the posts were pretty short by my standards, and even then I sometimes had to grasp at straws to get the posts to be that long. I even looked at my Shana III review, and it lacked any real emotion to it, except for maybe a few parts.

So I’m scrapping it. No more previews or reviews, unless it’s a show I’m emotionally invested in (so either a really good one, a really bad one, or a show that has an impactful scene or two). Instead I’m going for a format similar to Yi and Yumeka and such, where I’ll write a posts whenever I wish and they’ll primarily be editorials. Though I’m actually reluctant to say editorial, because they’ll be inspired by specific episodes, whether it be a plot point, or how something is handled, or whatever.

Not all is different, though. I feel like without having required posting, I’d fade away from the desire to blog, so I’m keeping the Reader’s Pick category. This also means I’ll still do season previews, if anything so that I can put up the poll for the thing. I’ll also have normal editorials and such. But posts won’t take too long to come out, I already have a couple of ideas for posts.

And that’s about it; I’m not sure if I missed anything. I’ll try to get out a Saki super post soon to catch up, but I have quite a few other shows to catch up on too, so we’ll see.

I like to end these kinds of personal blog-related posts by telling people they can ask me stuff, so go ahead if you want. Ever wanted to know my favourite colour? Well now’s your chance. Or you could ask my opinion on things, such as shows or writing, because I like to think my opinions are super important and awesome.

EDIT: I should mention there are other reasons I’m switching to this format, too. One is that this method actually does appeal to me more than what I had been doing. The bigger one is that I’m sick and tired of my blogging and gaming taking punches at each other. I constantly have to give up one for the other, but with this new format, it should prevent it.

And if you doubt I can continue to come up with posting topics based on episodes I watch, just look back at my Shana episodics. Remember when one of them had 2000+ words about a 3-4 minute scene? Yeah, I can write more based on how much I personally feel about the topic or whatever. Of course not all of my posts will be that long, but that’s just an example of what it’s like to write about something that genuinely interests me.

Yet Another Obligatory Aniblog Post

Welcome, all ye new and returning visitors.

I’ll try to keep this short and just point out some minor things about the blog you may not notice with just quick glances at various parts, and then I’ll post a few recommended reads. I-it’s not that I don’t want to waste your time or anything! I’m just in a generous mood, th-that’s all!

Intermission: The Unheld Celebration

We interrupt your normally scheduled previews for a special announcement!

As you all know, us anime bloggers have a nice community about us. Some circles are occasionally made between some people, but it usually isn’t hard for new bloggers to enter that circle. We all know each other to some degree, but obviously some will be more well-known amongst each other than others.

Where the hell am I going with this? Well, as some of you may or may not know, Marina of Anime B&B started blogging around the same time I did (early January 2011), however, her one-year anniversary and January itself has passed with absolutely no celebration post! Nor even a passing comment about it!

This is unacceptable. You think I’m going to let you have a year’s worth of blogging go by without allowing yourself the brief pat on the back for making it this far? NOPE.

So here’s the deal, I want all of you readers, lurkers, random passers-by, and even Google bots, (so, about three people in total) to head over to Anime B&B (or her Twitter) right now and congratulate her for making it this far. Even if you’ve never been to her blog before, you should go and do it. You can even do it on her most recent episodic (and can comment on the episodic itself too, while you’re at it).

Ever since I started blogging, I’ve met some cool people, but the three people who undoubtedly helped push me further into the actual anime blogging community itself were Marina, trzr23 (who celebrated his blog’s one-year anniversary a few months ago), and Nadja (who is maybe, hopefully coming back soon?).

Thanks guys, you’re the kind of people who help make blogging worthwhile.

Now seriously, go congratulate Marina.

One Year Anniversary and Other Celebratory Shenanigans

So I was going to do that season preview, but then I realized that this blog has actually reached the one-year mark… nine days ago.

Whoops.

I’m not sure whether this is a bad thing since I missed it, or a good thing because I’m not purely focused on reaching a goal line of sorts. But whatever, that’s besides the point. Lets hold a mini celebration, shall we? *starts gathering confetti*

Oh, and I know the site itself has been alive longer than a year, but Riyoga’s Ramblings in and of itself did not exist until January 8, 2011.

Presenting: Riyoga’s Ramblings 2.0

That homework crunch was a nightmare. Portal 2 was still worth it, though.

Anyways, on to the point of this post, I’m making a few changes to the way I’m doing things. Actually, I wouldn’t really say “changes” so much as “additions.” Not to mention the biggest announcement doesn’t even really have to do with this blog itself, but whatever, I’m rolling with it.

Madoka Magica Resumes Airing!

You read that right! And it isn’t April Fools, either.

Madoka Magica will air the last two episodes back-to-back on April 21st. [source]

Before ending this extremely short post, I think I should mention something that some fans might not know. While SHAFT did indeed delay the episodes so they could improve the quality, they finished on time for the new airing. The problem was that due to all of the destruction and such featured in the show, MBS refused to air the episodes.

Now, why didn’t some other station air them? Well, first of all, they probably had the same thought. But the main reason was because SHAFT had a contract with MBS that said that MBS would get to air the episodes before everyone else. Basically, MBS had SHAFT by the balls.

Now lets hope MBS doesn’t change their mind again.

I Found Out Why Shana Season 3 Hasn’t Been Announced Yet

BECAUSE THEY WERE WORKING ON MAKING A BLU-RAY VERSION OF THE FIRST SEASON.

BECAUSE THEY WERE WORKING ON MAKING A BLU-RAY VERSION OF THE FIRST SEASON, SECOND SEASON, AND THE MOVIE.

FUCK TO THE YEAH.

Season One Source
Season Two Source
Movie Source

I assume you can’t read Japanese, but it basically says the box set for the first season will be released on June 22 in Japan, the second season on September 22, and the movie on July 27. If you don’t believe me, Doki confirmed it by making a post about it earlier.

Funimation, now that you have the Shana license, bring this shit to America (along with season 2). If you don’t, I’ll be forced to import the shit out of this, even though it costs $300 for each one (except the movie). But who cares? IT’S SHANA.

Dear J.C. Staff,

Thank you for making  glorious Blu-Ray versions of my waifu and favorite show, but can you please bring Shakugan no Shana III to us this Fall? ily

Spin-off of Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Announced

UPDATE: THE VIDEO HAS BEEN CHANGED TO PRIVATE BECAUSE IT WAS AN APRIL FOOLS JOKE. SHOCKER.

ANOTHER UPDATE: THE FACT THAT PEOPLE ARE STILL CLICKING THE LINKS EVEN AFTER I ADMITTED THIS WAS AN APRIL FOOLS JOKE AND THAT THE VIDEO HAS BEEN REMOVED IS EMBARRASSING. STOP.

It seems like a lot of anime bloggers are having fun pulling April Fools jokes today. I can certainly understand why, but I don’t feel the same way. I’m dedicated to bringing you previews, reviews, and important information about anime 24/7, 365 days a year.

The new spinoff is titled Mahou Shoujo Sonico★Magica, but no further details have been given. They launched the official site for it, and also put the opening animation up on Youtube.

The animation for this new one looks to be very high quality, as expected. I’m curious to see what kind of plot they’re going to do for it. Anyone have any theories?

Weekly News: March 20-26

Weekly News: March 13-19

Time for the return of weekly news!

Despite all of the problems Japan is having still, there’s a decent amount of news for the week, though some of these relate directly to what’s going on.

I said back in my “Anime and Manga Industry Members” post that I’d update if any casualties were reported, and there was one. Voice actors have been lucky, but producers and animators have not.

But, on to the news.
